COERR Mae Sot and Mae Sarieng Organized “ELDERLY DAY CEREMONY”

   COERR Mae Sot Organized “ELDERLY DAY CEREMONY” at Ban Mae La refugee camp in Tak Province during April 17-18, 2018 to inherit the virtuous traditional culture to youth in order to realize the value of elderly in their family and community, to make elders proud of themselves so they will continue to live their good and happy life and be good models to the younger generations.

   As the world is going to have more and more elderly, a ceremony like this should also strengthen relationship between the two generations, narrow the gap and lead to the love and caring of the younger and the elder while the cultural ceremony is going on in the society.

   This significant ceremony was organized on April 17 and 18, and there were 102 refugees consisting of 80 female and 22 male participants.

  

  

The younger were seen pouring water on the hands of the revered elders and asking for blessing which is a highlight traditional ceremony that strengthen their relationship

  

  

  

  

COERR Mae Sarieng also organized national elderly day event during April-May 2018.

   In Mae Lama Luang camp, elderly day was organized on April 20th with recreation like singing and playing traditional songs and performance, as to conserve the Karen culture. There were 65 participants: 39 female and 26 male. Another activity was held on May 15th, had 54 participants: 40 female and 14 male.

   The same activity was organized in Ban Mae La Oon camp on April 23rd, had 40 participants: 31 female and 9 male, and on May 21st, had 57 participants of 39 female and 18 male.

   For the annual Elderly Day, the ceremony was held in Ban Mae La Oon camp on May 16th, with 179 participants of 92 male and 87 female. Finally, there was the Annual Elderly Day being held in Mae Lama Luang on May 16th for 179 refugees: 92 male and 87 female, and in Mae La Oon on May 17th for 236 refugees: 42 male and 94 female, in which elderly came to receive water pouring and gifts from the youth as a sign of paying respect, while elders give their blessings to the youngers in return.
